Rain and Severe Weather Today Leads To Much Cooler Conditions To End October.

Good Monday Morning. As you head out the door grab the umbrella because it’s raining cats and dogs. Widespread rain is covering the area. As of 6am the heaviest rain is in Cleveland, Rutherford, McDowell, Burke, Caldwell, and Alexander. Storm motion this morning is from the South Southeast.

This afternoon torrential rainfall will cover the entire area. Between 2pm and 8pm a line of strong and severe storm will traverse the area as a triple point low pressure pushes East. This will be what we call a low CAPE and high sheer eent. This quaziliner covective system will move through the area during peak heating. This should set the stage for severe storms. Main threats between 2 and 8pm are straightline damaging winds. Isolated tornadoes can not be ruled out either. The National Weather Service has upgraded parts of our area to a Slight Risk, risk level 2 out of 5. The counties included in this Slight Risk are Alexander, Catawba, Cleveland, and Lincoln. A Marginal Risk, risk level 1 of 5, is indicated for Burke, Caldwell, McDowell, and Rutherford Counties.

Additionally torrential rainfall will pile up quick along and east of the Blue Ridge today. Given the recent dry conditions the flash flood threat is localized but cannot be ruled out. The National Weather Service Weather Predictions Center has issued a Slight Risk, risk 2 of 5, for Burke, Caldwell, McDowell, and Rutherford.
