Another Round of Brief Wintry Weather Possible?

Good Tuesday morning everyone! I hope that you are doing well!

Another beautiful day across the Foothills and Western Piedmont of North Carolina. A cold front pushed through overnight, that will lead to another sunny day all though a little breezy. Highs will top out in the mid to upper 50's. Lows will fall into the upper 20's to low 30's.

Looking ahead to Wednesday and Thursday (Thanksgiving) pleasant weather will continue with highs in the low to mid 50's. Overnight lows will be in the upper 20's to low 30's.

Looking into the extended forecast (Friday - Sunday)

Friday will be the transition day. Cold high pressure will build to our northeast, while a Gulf of Mexico storm system will develop and ridge along the Carolina Coastline. The high pressure to our Northeast will be able to pump in ample amount of cold air into the area. Clouds will increase throughout the day Friday. The precip shield should build into the area Friday night into Saturday morning.

Depending on the exact track of the low pressure will determine how much cold air we have to work with. The Euro model suggest that we will have enough cold air to bring freezing rain all the way into the foothills and portions of the Interstate 40 corridor.

Euro Model.. This is not a forecast, just model data. Time Stamp 2 pm Saturday

The GFS also likes the possibility of enough cold air getting into the area, but limits it to the Northwest sections of our Foothill Counties (NW Burke, NW Caldwell, and NW McDowell) . So the GFS is not as aggressive with the cold air as the Euro model is.

GFS Model.. This is not a forecast. Model data only.

In any case, another heavy rain maker will affect the Carolinas on Saturday. Any frozen precip should change to all liquid by midday. Heavy rain will continue through the day. This could create some flooding concerns, as we've been super saturated over the last few months. All said and done another 2" of rain is possible across our forecast area.

Sunday looks to be a decent day as the storm system moves out Saturday night. We will see decreasing clouds and temperatures in the 50's.

We will continue to monitor the forecast and watch for the potential at a brief encounter with some freezing rain Saturday morning.

Have a great day!
