Good Tuesday everyone! I hope your day is off to a good start!
A cold front is approaching the Mountains of North Carolina right now (10:10 AM) We starting to see snow accumulate in the mountains. A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for NW Burke, NW Caldwell, NW McDowell, and Rutherford Mountains. We could see a couple inches of snow up that way today.
In the lower elevations rain should start by Noon, that will be the front moving through. We could see some snow mix in as the precipitation comes to an end by mid afternoon. The temperatures will drop quickly. By late afternoon we should be close to freezing. So it will be a race between how fast the cold air gets here, and how fast we can dry the roads. So I wouldn't be surprised to see some icy spots this evening.
By tonight the lows will fall into the teens and low 20's. The winds will pick up behind the front. Wind Chills by Wednesday morning will be in the single digits in the mountains and the low to mid teens in the foothills.
Wednesday - Thursday we will see very cold temperatures set up across the area, as the Arctic air sets up shop. Highs on Wednesday and Thursday will be in the low to mid 30's under mainly sunny skies and breezy conditions. Thursday Morning Wind Chills could fall into the single digits across the foothills and in the negatives in the mountains.
We start to warm up by Friday, highs will be in the 40's. By this weekend we will see highs in the 50's under fair conditions.
As the first week of February gets underway, we continue to warm into the 60's. Rain chances will increase as we go through next week as well.
Have a great day, and stay warm!
