Cold & Active Weather Pattern Coming Up, Will the Two Work in Conjunction to Produce Winter Weather?

Good Sunday evening to everyone, we hope that you have had a great weekend...

We have a lot of features out there on the playing field that will help produce an active week of weather across the Southeast US including Western North Carolina.

Water Vapor image this evening shows an extensive plume of Pacific Moisture moving across the Southern United States. An upper low that is closed off from the main jet stream also continues to move east from California into the Four-Corners Region of the country.

The moisture content along with the upper level system will begin to move east on Monday and by Tuesday a stout frontal boundary will provide a focus in the low levels for that moisture to wring out. Meanwhile you can see the northern jet is also pressing down and that will help usher in a shot of cold air for the mid-week timeframe...

The frontal passage should take place on Wednesday drying out the region temporarily and colder air will rush in Wednesday Night and Thursday. Temperatures will be quite chilly at that point (40's highs, 20's and 30's at night), a good 5-8 degrees below normal.

The break in the wet weather is going to be short-lived as the next upper feature is cruising eastward into the Southern Plains by Thursday afternoon. Precipitation will be breaking out again along the Gulf Coast at that point...

Once we get to Friday, our next system will begin to push moisture back toward the Southern Appalachians. Meanwhile surface high pressure across the Northeast US will be in retreat out in the Atlantic, easterly will send a fetch of moisture into the Carolinas.

There will be some residual cold low level air remaining along and just east of the Appalachians. If the moisture content can arrive pre-daybreak on Friday we could see a brief onset of freezing precip before a quick transition to rain by late morning Friday.

This is something that we will need to monitor just in case any of the parameters change. Pay attention to future forecast updates the next couple days as we get closer.

Regardless, precipitation looks to be plentiful over the next seven days as amounts of 1-2 inches area are likely...
