Good Evening everyone!
We could be facing our first threat of wintry weather on Thursday. This isn't going to be major issue, but it will remind us that winter is around the corner.
Cold high pressure will build to our Northeast Wednesday Evening into Thursday Morning. A low pressure system will ride up into the area. Cold high pressure will sink to the surface and create a cold pool of temperatures at or just below freezing in the North Carolina mountains and foothills.
This will likely create a 6 hour window for some freezing rain. At this point the highest confidence of ice accumulation would be in the NC mountains. The model trends have also brought the threat to the NC foothills and I 40 corridor.
One concern I have is we still have some leaves on the trees, so any accumulation could weigh down trees more than normal.
Temperatures will rise just above freezing by Noon. A heavy rain threat will continue through Thursday where we could see some flash flooding concerns.
Lots to digest this evening!
