Excessive Rainfall and Severe Weather Possible This Weekend

The active weather pattern continues and now will impact this weekend. Excessive rainfall to high wind producing thunderstorms are all in play.

Lets break it down....

A cold front will move toward the area today and move through the area Saturday Night and Sunday. Ahead of this frontal systems temperatures will soar, likely reaching the mid and upper 60's across the area Saturday. In fact a few locations near the SC Boarder will likely reach 70 degrees or into the low 70's. Winds will also become quite gusty. Wind gusts will gust 15 - 30mph Saturday afternoon in the foothills and 25 - 40mph in the mountains.

Rainfall will become steady along the Blue Ridge, mainly along the Blue Ridge Parkway and areas immediately east of there today. It will remain light to moderate there while the rest of us deal with an off and on drizzle or passing light rain shower. The rainfall will increase with intensity and coverage on Saturday. By Saturday Afternoon areas along the Blue Ridge Parkway will likely be pushing 3 or more inches of rain. Down in the lower elevations though most areas will still be right at an inch or even below an inch still. Rainfall and thunderstorms will arrive Saturday Night with the highest wind gusts.
