Severe Weather Possible on Election Day

Good Monday Morning everyone! After a beautiful weekend, Monday is starting off pretty lame!

Cold Air Daming has put us in the Carolina Wedge. Don't expect much improvement today. Any leftover showers and drizzle should end by midday. For the remainder of the Afternoon expect to see cloudy skies with highs only making it in the 50's.

As we enter Tuesday a cold front will be moving into the area. We've been tracking this cold front for the potential of severe weather in our forecast area. Luckily for us we have several things that will hamper the threat in Western North Carolina. The best dynamics for severe weather will be northwest of the area. Eastern North Carolina and Coastal Plain of South Carolina may stand the best chance to see severe weather.

Needless to say The Storm Prediction Center in Norman, Oklahoma has placed the Foothills (Alexander, Burke, Caldwell, Catawba, Most of Cleveland, NW Lincoln, McDowell and Rutherford Counties) in a Marginal Area (Leve 1 of 5) and the Western Piedmont (Eastern Catawba, Central and Eastern Lincoln) in a Slight Area (Level 2 of 5)

Here's how The National Weather Service determine the different levels.

As we approach Tuesday Morning a cold front will be moving into the North Carolina Mountains by 9 am that front will hit the North Carolina High Country.

The line of storms will then move into the Foothill Communities by 11 am. Since we are in the morning hours, we don't have a lot of instability, or thunderstorm fuel to support severe storms. If you live in the Foothills the primary concern from this line would be damaging wind gust, and brief heavy rain.

By 2 pm the line of storms will be exiting our Western Piedmont communities. The line of storms doesn't look to strong, but we are entering the peak heating of the day, so may create the best opportunity for some damaging straight wind gusts.

By 6 pm thing will be well out of the area. Overnight lows will be in the mid 40's, followed by a pleasant Wednesday with highs in the mid to upper 60's.

Keep checking back for more updates!
