Good morning everyone! I hope that your Monday is off to a good start.
Today's discussion will be focused on the severe weather weather threat for Monday.
GOES Meso Scale sector over the Carolinas shows some low clouds and fog near the surface. Above the low clouds and fog looks to be clear skies. That is critical in the chances to see severe weather. Any sunshine today will help add fuel for thunderstorm development.
With the anticipation of some clearing late this morning into the afternoon hours, we should see our CAPE values ( Thunderstorm Fuel) increase. Here is a look at the CAPE values late this afternoon. Numbers between 1,000 - 2,000 normally means we could see a few strong to possible severe storms.
So for that reason, The Storm Prediction Center has issued a Slight Risk of severe thunderstorms for the entire forecast area.
Our primary concern today will be the chance of seeing damaging winds and large hail. Some isolated flash flooding is also likely as some of these storms could produce some heavy rainfall.
Highs today will be in the mid to upper 70's.
