Severe Weather Risk Increases For Saturday Night.
This is a brief update on the severe weather potential for Saturday Night.
Saturday will be a extraordinary winter day across the Southeast, including the Carolinas. A strong cold front will swing through the area Saturday Night. Ahead of the front, warm and moist Southwest winds will increase. winds at the surface will strengthen and become gusty. Saturday Afternoon wind gusts of 30mph are likely. Aloft though, and just above the surface, winds will increase to 70-90mph. Saturday Night between 6pm and Midnight (timing may need to be tweeked tomorrow) the cold front will approach the area with a line of thunderstorms in tow. This line will rapidly push east through the area Saturday Night and those storms will tap into the high winds aloft, and bring them down to the surface. Winds over 60mph will likely cause scattered power outages and isolated tornadoes cannot be ruled out.
