Severe Weather Risk Increases Monday Night

Chance of severe storms has increased for Monday Evening. Burke, McDowell, and Caldwell Counties have a marginal risk, 1 out of 5, and Rutherford, Cleveland, Lincoln, Catawba, and Alexander have a slight risk, 2 out of 5 of seeing a severe thunderstorm. Storms Monday Evening into the overnight will be capable of producing large hail and damaging winds.

Additionally these storms will be prolific lightning producers. Lightning in all areas will likely be nearly continuous as the storms move through.

Storms will begin to redevelop in the eastern slope of the mountains Monday between 4 and 10pm. During that timeframe they will move east while strengthening. We believe that the air will be the most unstable in the counties where the slight risk has been issued. It is not out of the realm of possibilities that we will need to push the slight risk west to the mountains once confidence increases.
