The Week Ahead: Cooler temps in sight!

Good evening, Foothills Weather Nation! Happy Sunday! It has been a scorcher this past week and weekend- we hope everyone has managed to keep themselves and their pets cool in these unforgiving temperatures. As the title suggests, we have good news in that we can expect this week to be cooler and closer to seasonal norms. Since it's already late, let's get right to it!

Near Term Forecast (Monday and Tuesday)

We have some great news for you in that this is the only section of the week where we are expecting any significant rainfall. A cold front will move in quickly from the Ohio River Valley into NC late Monday into Tuesday morning which will mean some afternoon showers on Monday, rain for the majority of the evening and Tuesday morning, but should be drying up by Tuesday evening. Expect temperatures still up on Monday with highs in the low 90's, but Tuesday will be quite refreshing as we will have a high in the upper 70's and lower 80's across the forecasting area. For the entirety of this week you may be happy to know that the overnight lows will stay within the 60's and will likely drop even lower for those who live in the high country.

Short Term Forecast (Wednesday-Friday)

Tuesday will be the coolest day of the week, but we will see those temperatures stay reasonable and climb up slowly a couple of degrees each passing day as a surface high settles over the Mid Atlantic states. The orientation of this high pressure as it has descended down from Canada brings with it notably drier conditions that we have not really seen for any extended period of time for months. This will provide great relief for those who enjoy summer, but don't enjoy being broiled. The nice part about this as well is that the mosquitoes will be slightly less intense the end of the week and into the weekend as it will be a few days since a decent rainfall.

Long Term Forecast (Saturday and Sunday)

Our high pressure will have moved off shore come time for the weekend which will be followed by a weak trough. This will bring back some of that humidity, but little energy compared to what we've had recently. Precipitation chances are still fairly low, but we could expect to see those chances go up as we gain further confidence in the timing and intensity of the moisture maybe later in the week.

Thank you all very much for reading! I hope everyone has a fantastic week!
