Thursday Weather Preview: Clouds and Moisture Returns...

Good Wednesday afternoon to everyone, the weather today has been very nice overall. Skies have been sunny and with westerly flow it has allowed temps to warm up nicely well into the 50's. However as you can see on the visible satellite image, clouds are lingering west of the Appalachians and especially back near the Mississippi River.

GOES 16 Visible Satellite image (2 pm)

A disturbance will drop southeast from the Upper Plains states into the Midwest and eventually the Ohio Valley. That disturbance will scoop up limited moisture and send it eastward across the Southern tier of the country. The end result is going to be a colder, cloudy and at times wet Thursday.

Future Radar (Noon)

After a cold start (low 30's) clouds will increase and by lunchtime a few showers will move eastward into the mountains of North Carolina. This early arrival in clouds and moisture will keep the thermometer from rising a great deal...

Showers will move into the coverage area during the afternoon hours, rainfall will be scattered in nature and will not be very heavy in intensity.

Future Radar (3 pm)

As this feature continues to pass by to our north, additional showers will linger into the evening hours before ending. These will continue to be scattered in nature...

Model Precip Amounts(Through Friday 7 am)

With limited moisture content associated with this feature, rainfall amounts will be light in nature. The latest short range data isn't very impressed with the moisture through tomorrow night. Cold dry air in the low levels of the atmosphere will do a job in evaporating moisture early on...

Model Projected High Temperatures (Thursday)

The moisture overriding the colder surface air will also play a role in the high temps tomorrow. Recent models have really honed in on a cold Thursday across the Foothills (Low 40's) with a bit warmer conditions away from the Blue Ridge. Our current forecast isn't as bullish as the afternoon models are showing but it's a possibility that cannot be ruled out tomorrow. Overall, temps look to be a good 10 or more degrees below today's values...
