Too Much Of A Good Thing? Heavy Rain Forecast This Weekend

Good Thursday Night. Hope everyone is getting some rest tonight. We are expecting rain to overspread the entire forecast area by sunrise Friday. Rainfall could be locally heavy tonight but we do not anticipate any flooding issues.

Heavy rain moves through on Friday as well. Rainfall rates will increase to nearly 1.75 inches per hour, higher near the Blue Ridge where upslope flow will be greatest. If any flooding occurs on Friday it should pretty localized.

Heavier rainfall is expected this Saturday and Sunday, especially in the nighttime hours. Flash flooding could become an issue Saturday, Sunday, and even into Monday.

We expect this rainfall to continue off and on right through atleast Tuesday. Why? An upper level low with a strong tropical connection will funnel Gulf moisture and atlantic moisture into the region, lift it up the eastern slopes, and ring out the atmosphere like a sponge.

Here are our key messages and rainfall forecasts.

If anyone has any questions just ask. We will have our next update Friday.
