Weekend Storm System may Include a Brief Winter Mix

A special thanks to Chic-Fil-A of Morganton for sponsoring our Winter Weather Coverage...

As you know it has been unseasonably mild over the past couple weeks thanks in part to a large trough centered over the Western US with a large Eastern US ridge fluctuating on and off the coastline.

However things are going to change in a big way starting this weekend. To go with the change will be another dynamic storm system. The big difference this time around is that some leftover cold air at the surface may be in place around the time precip arrives during the first half of Saturday.

We could be looking at some mixture of winter precipitation (snow, sleet, freezing rain) for a small time frame during the morning hours of Saturday before transitioning to rain by the late morning hours This looks to be a nuisance event at this juncture in those favored areas just east of the Blue Ridge.

Below are slides from our first briefing on this storm system...we will update. We have introduced the Winter Storm Index at Level 1 (Social Media Talk). Another update will be posted tomorrow...
