Good Saturday to everyone across the Foothills and Western Piedmont…needless to say we have got plenty of goods on our “weather plate”, so to speak for this second weekend in September. We will get to the latest on Irma here in a minute…
But first off in the near term we are going to have a nice Saturday on tap across the region. There may be a few clouds floating around but it will be sunny for the most part with temperatures getting up into the 70’s. There are some outdoor events going on today across the region and the timing couldn’t have gone better. We will have continued pleasant weather for tonight but not quite as cool as previous nights, we should bottom out in the 50’s by Sunday daybreak.
The second half of the weekend features the first signs of what’s going on to our south. Outflow from powerful hurricane Irma will be pulling north by Sunday afternoon and that will begin to spread in from the south. Daytime highs will be much like today, in the 70’s…
Now…in regards to Irma she made a brief landfall just prior to midnight along the Northern Cuba Coast near the Camaguay Archipelago, so far no huge impact on the storm as it continues to move along the northern coastline.
There hasn’t been much in the way of changes to the forecast thinking with Irma during the overnight. She will be a powerful Category 4/5 as it begins to impact the state of Florida on Sunday. By this point Irma should be going more in a north or north-northwest heading through the Peninsula. She will continue into the Southeast US on Monday spreading its impacts well inland. Here’s the latest forecast track on Irma as of 5 am.
Our impacts here locally continue similar to what we conveyed yesterday evening…here’s a look at some of our impact graphics for Irma, the weather here in Western North Carolina will begin to deteriorate starting Monday afternoon…we will have more on Irma later today with some updated info…
Stay tuned as forecasts are likely to change as we get closer to the event on Monday. Our weather team will be all over it through the weekend.
Have a great Saturday!
